History
Champagne Taittinger’s origins date back to 1734 with the founding of the original House by Jacques Fourneaux. The Taittinger link was established in 1931 when Pierre Taittinger acquired the House. He was stationed at the Chateau de la Marquetterie when serving in the 1st World War and fell in love with the property and its vineyards and eventually purchased the company. Today, the Reims based House remains owned and actively managed by the family named on the label.

Regional Information
Champagne wine region is famous for its excellent sparkling wines. It is the most northerly wine growing region in France & its unique chalky soils & climate provide ideal growing conditions. Chateau de la Marquetterie is situated in the heart of the Champagne wine-growing region & owned by Champagne Taittinger. One parcel around the Chateau is know as “Les Folies” & is a sunny south, southeast exposed vineyard. This, combined with its soils produce Chardonnay & Pinot Noir grapes of exceptional quality.

Vinification Details
The vineyard surrounding Taittinger’s “Chateau de la Marquetterie” produces top quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for this unique single vineyard wine. Made only in tiny amounts from the first pressings, it reflects the influence of its “terroir”. The depth and finesse is enhanced by a small amount being fermented in oak casks and from a minimum of 3 years ageing on the lees. A dosage of 9g of cane sugar per litre is added after disgorgement.
